My Baked Dalewood Fromage Feta with Honey Spiced Blueberries, good with Nitida Summer Harvest Rosé
Dalewood Fromage is an Estate in Paarl which makes cheese from its own pasture fed Jersey Herd, a real Appellation Contrôlée Cheese Range.
Dalewood Fromage Full Cream Jersey Feta
I was very excited when they recently launched a Feta Cheese, and even more excited when it came in a little bucket in three large wheels. The flavour is something spectacular and certainly the finest local feta I have tasted. Suitable for salads, sauces and also my baked version with blueberries flavoured with spiced Peel’s Honey. Nitida Wine Estate is situated in the tiny Durbanville Wine Appellation. The Estate itself sits on the crown of a hill over which cooling breezes blow to ameliorate Summer heat in the vineyards. This allows for longer hang time and grater flavour in the grapes.
Etienne Louw, Nitida Winemaker
The Nitida Summer Hostess Rosé is a blend of four red grapes and one white. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir, and Sauvignon Blanc.
Pour
From a Burgundy shaped, clear glass bottle closed with a black screw cap. In the glass, the wine is the colour of strawberry juice. The aromas and flavours segue one into the other. White fleshed peaches, crisp raspberries and fraises des bois. A generous palate, beautifully balanced in a just off dry wine, with a lower alcohol.
Here is the Valentine’s Day Menu from Cassia, the Estate’s restaurant, a Picnic Box extravaganza. Do book well in advance. The view from the restaurant over a lake is so so soothing.
