Delaire Graff Winemaker, Morné Vrey, produces a range of the most stunning wine, his Chardonnays and Sauvignon Blancs come in a number of variations. The Estate is able to draw grapes from a number of contracted vineyards in the Western Cape as well as from its own vineyards which climb up Botmaskop at the peak of the Helshoogte Pass in the Stellenbosch Wine Appellation. The Delaire Graff White Rock Sauvignon Blanc 2018 is a unique wine, available only from Woolworths stores which sell wine. Two of the Estate’s took Gold Awards at the Concours Mondial du Sauvignon 2019, announced today.
The Delaire Graff Estate is a destination venue and well worth the drive. The gardens are quite spectacular and are filled with South African works of art, with some of Dylan Lewis’s amazing big cat sculptures. The original Tretchikoff painting of The Chinese Lady is to be found as you enter the main building. There is a most beautiful boutique of Graff Diamonds where you will see, and indeed be able to buy some of Laurence Graff’s amazing creations. 100% Capri offers some stunning wear for ladies and gents. Vana offers a fabulous collection of handbags and accessories while Africa Nova presents a collection of African Contemporary art works. The Delaire Graff Lodges houses an up to date Spa with all the offerings required.
There are two restaurants on the Estate, one named for the estate and the other called Indochine. The Delaire Graff Restaurants offers dishes made from local produce, including the Estate’s own Vegetable & Herb Garden. The view from the restaurant is as spectacular as the food, the iconic Simonsberg, The Banghoek Valley and beyond to the Groot Drakenstein Valley. Indochine, with Virgil Kahn as its chef offers Oriental Cuisine at its finest, again with a lovely view.
The Wine Tasting and Sales Lounge is manned by knowledgeable Wine Ambassadors who will take you through the range of Morné Vrey’s sublime wines.
From a Burgundy shaped bottle. Closed with a screw cap. In the glass, it is a pale golden straw. The aromas are of fynbos herbs, fresh cut grass, ripe white fleshed peaches. On entry, there is a thread of the purist fruit acidity and minerals which runs through the very generous mid palate and into the long tasting aftertaste which ends with grapefruit and granadilla.
