Landskroon Wine Estate – a thoroughly modern winery steeped in history…

The Landskroon Wine Estate Homestead, with its always immaculate gardens

The Landskroon Wine Estate is on the south west facing slopes looking southwards to Table Mountain on the horizon. It was here, in Table Bay that on 6th May 1689 that the good ship Gardiol dropped its sails with the three De Villiers Brothers from Niort on board, having sailed from La Rochelle on the French Atlantic Coast. These three brothers, well two of them as one had no offspring, are responsible for all the De Villiers’s in South Africa. De Villiers’s who have left deep footprints in all of South Africa’s fields of life.

The De Villiers Family of Landskroon which has owned and managed the Estate since 1874 is now in its 5th generation. All the wine makers and heads of the family have been called Paul. Current Cellarmaster Paul de Villiers V won the Diners Club Winemaker of the Year for his Port Style Wines. In earlier days, the Estate was more focused on red wines. The first wines were exported abroad in 1994. Today, the offer a full range of some very exciting wines.
