Classical breakfasts at Haute Cabrière

A visit to Haute Cabrière in the beautiful Franschhoek Wine Valley in December for lunch was a brilliant experience. The architecturally stunning ‘glass box’ which houses the new restaurant allows the positively Alpine views to be part of your meal. I was once there early in the morning, the mountains are breath taking.

Chatting to Nic van Wyk, the Chef responsible for the culinary delights on the Estate, he said that the recently opened bakery was a magnet for locals who come up early in the morning to buy croissants and then usually stay for a coffee. It’s all about the coffee: Coffee is by Bean in Love, and once truly awake, raise your hand for a tasting of three MCC’s from the simply gorgeous Pierre Jourdan range.

And now Breakfast is being served, the most classical of classical breakfasts. What to order: Gun for the ‘Smoked hake, cheese and mustard sauce served with potatoes and poached egg’ or ‘A bacon and cheese brioche served with mushroom sauce and poached egg’. Click to see the breakfast menu.
