The Fishwives Club Merlot from Stellenbosch

The Fishwives Club is a range of wonderfully accessible wines which are produced by Patrick Robertson. Quirky labels, on bottles containing delicious, no nonsense, eminently drinkable Wines. With International Merlot Day coming up on 7th November, now is the perfect time to land a bottle or two. Stellenbosch is well known for its red wines, and it is here that Patrick sourced the wine. Matured in French Oak. In the glass, the wine is perfect bloodplum red at the heart which pales out to the edges. The aromas and palate segue one into the other with sappy black and red berries and plums. The oak adds its sweet spice and vanilla. Silken tannins in a long satisfying aftertaste. Perfect with a roasted smoked pork ribs brushed with a sweet marinade and cooked all caramelly on the outside.

The Fishwives Club Magical Merlot – no sulphur added

The Fishwives Club also presents its Magical Merlot in a can. No sulphur is added to the wine. Being a huge fan of wine-in-a-can, I was interested to hear that this wine had been matured with honey bush wood which is full of antioxidants. This process was developed over a number of years. It imparts no flavour into the wine. I spoke to a couple of very knowledgeable wine people who were in complete acceptance of this maturation process. Easy to transport, the thin aluminium can makes it easy to chill when you take it out on a picnic.

Says Patrick, “We’re Rated 5 Stars on Uvinum, in the Top 5% On Vivino. Bestseller on Vineshop24 Germany. And one of The Fastest Growing Brands In The Netherlands and now a hit in Belgium. We export to 9 Countries.”

Steak, Green Peppercorn Sauce and Pommes Frites

Both of these wines are perfect with a tranche of steak in the style of Julia Child with Green Peppercorns.

The Fishwives Club has Chardonnay, A Pinotage Rosé and Sauvignon Blanc in its range.
