Muratie Wine Estate has a great story. I think a factual story adds so much to the sheen of a wine. Laurens Campher was a soldier in the Dutch East India Company Military Barracks in Cape Town. Once a month he walked to Muratie on the slopes of the Simonsberg. There, his wife, freed slave Ansela van de Caab lived with their children.
Today, Muratie is owned by the Melck Family, who themselves have a great story. Kim and Rijk Melck manage this Family Estate. Great wine offerings, fabulous food and many activities during the year.
