Landskroon Sauvignon Blanc 2021

There are few wineries, family owned and managed, who can boast of 5 generations since ownership. Fewer still which have had 5 cellar masters in a row called Paul. The Estate is on the southwest facing slopes of the iconic Paarl Mountain with Table Mountain on the southern horizon. Five generations of passionate winemakers have contributed to making Landskroon one of Paarl’s leading wine brands.

The current cellarmaster, Paul de Villiers, proudly continues this heritage as the 5th generation of the family at Landskroon. Paul runs the estate with his brother, Hugo, and cousins, Madelief and Huguette.

Sauvignon Blanc grapes in the hand of the harvester

The grapes, which come from the Western Cape Wine Appellation, are hand harvested and brought into the cellar for destalking and crushing, then chilling. Free run juice, and a small amount of press juice were cool settled for 2 days before fermentation on stainless steel tanks. Cool fermentation allowed for maximum fruit aromas and flavours. The wines are blended before being prepared for bottling.

Pour

From a classical Burgundy shaped bottle, closed with a screw cap. The label is in the new Landskroon livery – simple and elegant. In the glass, the wine is a gembright pale hay with some youthful lime green flashes. The aromas tend to the green properties of the grape. Green figs, green bell peppers and fynbos herbaceousness. The palate has a lively line of acidity from entry through to the long a satisfying aftertaste. The fruits and herbs reappear on the long finish. Lovely wine for now drinking. 3 star Platter and an Ultra Value Wine Challenge Silver medal.
