Groot Constantia has two of the finest eating places in the Cape Winelands. This beautiful Estate lies on the lower slopes of the Constantia Mountain with a magnificent view over False Bay and to the West. Housed in the Jonkershuis, The Young Man’s House, the restaurant is one which just exudes a classical Cape feel. In the heart of the Werf and a couple of steps away from the Groot Constantia Manor House, you have the Estate’s famous vineyards in sight. The Jonkershuis Management is very conscious of the sustainability and ethical content of its food and of maintaining a traditional ‘Cape’ feel to its menu.
The menu, from Breakfast to Dinner offers a brilliant selection of dishes which will suit any member of the family, young and old. There are three different dining areas the inside of the restaurant with its cosy fire in Winter and an escape from the heat of Summer, a perfect al fresco courtyard and the lawns on front of the restaurant under the massive oaks.
And in the evenings, inside the restaurant there are many dishes on offer including Bobotie, a Cape Classic.
Simon’s is a large family restaurant with a lovely verandah for summer, for families to eat great burgers, and I had one of the best batter fried fish and chips there a time ago. The menu is pitched at supporting the fine wines produced by Boela Gerber, the Winemaker of the Estate.
The good thing about all this good food is that there are great wines from the Estate to go with your dishes. Made by Boela Gerber, the Estate’s Award Winning Wine Maker.
