Delaire Graff Coastal Cuvée Sauvignon Blanc 2021

The Delaire Graaff Wine Estate is one of the Cape’s most exciting destinations. Situated on the shoulder between Botmaskop and the majestic Simonsberg, the Estate overlooks the beautiful Banghoek Valley. All the way down to Groot Drakenstein.

Morné Vrey, the Estate’s Winemaker

The Coastal Cuvée is a blend by Morné Vrey, the Estate’s Winemaker of Sauvignon Blanc grapes from the Durbanville, Stellenbosch, Darling, and Franschhoek Wine Appellations. There is also an 8% component of new barrel fermented Semillon. This wine is left on the lees for 5 months after the completion of fermentation to build out mid palate flavour which adds a bit of gravitas to the rather sprightly tank fermented Sauvignon Blanc. The wines are then blended and prepared for bottling.

From a Burgundy shaped bottle, closed with a screw cap. The label is classical elegant Delaire Graff. In the glass, the wine is a pale hay colour with touches of green when held up to the light. The aromas are a mélange of tropical fruits. Desiccated Pineapple, mango and melon, a whisp of cassis and fynbos herbaceousness. Lovely harmonious palate ending slowly with a lovely line of acidity. A truly impressive glass. This is one of my favourite grape blends. Will reward with a couple of years of cool cellaring.

The chefs at the two restaurants on the Estate provide fabulous food to match this stunner.
