De Wetshof Estate Lilya Rosé 2022
The De Wet Family have owned and managed this Robertson Estate since 1949, over four generations. The De Wetshof Estate was the first to be registered in the Robertson Wine Appellation. While they are specialist Chardonnay producers, Peter de Wet, does great things with other noble varieties, like Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon and Riesling.

Growing in limestone soils heavily peppered with clay allows for great water retention into the summer, these add interest and breadth of flavour in the wine. Cabernet Franc is one of my favourite red wine varieties, and of course, a parent of Cabernet Sauvignon. Once harvested before dawn and before the Summer heat rises in the vineyards, the grapes are taken to the cellar where they are destalked and then gently pressed. The juice then settles overnight before fermentation in stainless steel tanks. The wine is then prepared for bottling.

Pour
From a clear glass Burgundy shaped bottle. Closed with a pick screw cap. The bottle has a simple and elegant label. Lilya is the daughter of Johann and Gera de Wet. Johann is the CEO of the Wine Estate.
The aromas are of red berry fruits with a delicate citrus undertow. The palate is rich and generous and so satisfying. Ideal as a summer sipper, and great with food.

The De Wetshof Estate Lilya Rosé 2022 is a wine for anytime. Chill, though don’t over chill. Brilliant as sundowner or an aperitif or into the meal itself. As a summer lunch my Marinated Salmon Trout with lime & pink peppercorns is the perfect dish. Quick and easy to make and so pretty to look at. And delicious. Click HERE for my recipe.
