Da Luca Sparkling Rosé

Like a blushing bride walking down the aisle, Da Luca Sparkling Rosé is set for the month of love, this February and Valentine’s Day. Celebrating great Italian winemaking, this exquisite sparkling rosé is a blend of Merlot and Raboso from small growers in the Veneto region in Northern Italy, up north of Venice. In this rapidly growing segment, Da Luca is enjoying phenomenal growth with Nielsen reporting Da Luca Prosecco achieving close to 60 percent growth year on year while sparkling Rosé has jumped 16 percent.

The Da Luca Sparkling Rosé, for me, is an everyday wine, sure use it for celebration, but it is real summer stuff and so good with food.

Pour
From a tear drop shaped Champagne bottle, closed under natural cork and a wire muzzle. Colourful foil around the top and a very definite label. In the glass, it’s a cherry blossom pink with a mass of the tiniest bubbles rushing to the surface of the flute.

Raboso Grapes

Aromas of red berry fruits are repeated on the palate which is full in the middle and lasting in the aftertaste. Very refreshing. Fabulous recommended retail price of R81.00.

Pair
This is, as I said, an anytime wine, so it is as good at breakfast as it is at sundowner time. Delicious with food, and perhaps a platter of Italian delights like prosciutto, salami, soft burrata cheese and a creamy Gorgonzola.  At the other end of the meal, Meeta K Wolff’s Poppy Seed & Chai mini cakes with a Chai Cream Glaze.
