Steenberg Sauvignon Blanc 2019
Steenberg Wine Estate in the Constantia Wine Appellation, is probably the oldest piece of granted land in the Valley. Granted by Dutch Governor Simon van der Stel in 1682 to Catarina Ras, a widow. She had 5 husbands which she very carelessly lost, one by being trampled by an elephant [difficult in the Cape], one killed by a local, one eaten by a lion and and and. She must have been quite a girl.
Elunda Bassson, Steenberg Cellarmaster
Elunda Bassson, the Winemaker on the Estate is producing really stonking great wines. The cool climate of Constantia provides superb grapes to make superb wines.
Steenberg Estate is so worth a visit with two excellent reataurants, BistroSixteen82 and Tryn on the Steenberg Hotel complex. Legendary chef Kerry Kilpin is responsible for the menus in both restaurants. One of the top chefs in cape Town, in my opinion.
