Zorgvliet Cabernet Sauvignon 2019
Zorgvliet Wine Estate is on the Southern Side of the Banghoek Valley in the Stellenbosch Wine Appellation. Zorgvliet is a lovely old Cape Dutch House which sits on the base of the Valley and onto which you look if. You are driving on the Banghoek Pass, thus named by people crossing on horseback, in earlier times, who were afraid of The Cape Lion.

The vineyards on the estate are mostly South facing which means that the Summer temperatures in the vineyards are lower which results in lower ripening, thus more flavour in the grapes and ultimately the wine. The soils in which the vineyards are planted are mainly decomposed granite coming off the Simonsberg, an overlay of gravel [good drainage] and an underlay of clay [good moisture retention].
Bernard le Roux, the Zorgvliet Winemaker
The grapes were hand harvested and, in the cellar, berry sorted and taken to stainless steel fermenters. Punch downs to ensure good extraction and rack and returns aided the process. Malolactic fermentation took place in small French Oak Barrels of which 21% were new, and the wine matured for 14 months Blending of the barrels took place and the final wine was matured for a further 4 months before being prepared for bottling.
I really like both the shape of the bottle and the very French Chateau engraving on the label.
With cool cellaring this wine will reward you more and more each year until 2029.
