Durbanville Hills, The Collector’s Reserve, The Lighthouse Merlot 2019
The Durbanville Hills Winery is situated on a promontory at the end of a valley, overlooking Table Mountain, Table Bay and Robben Island. A partnership between 9 wine grape farmers from the Durbanville Wine Appellation and Distell, the winery with its founding Cellarmaster Martin Moore is currently involved in its 25th Vintage.
The Mouille Point Lighthouse, linocut by Theo Vorster
The Collector’s Reserve Range is made of the ‘finest grapes from Cape Town’s best vineyards’ which are named after prominent landmarks in Cape Town. Fabled Cape Town Linocut Artist, Theo Vorster was commissioned to create his vision of these landmarks for each wine. The Lighthouse Merlot 2019, features the Mouille Point Lighthouse, also known as Moaning Minnie. A sound I often heard as a child when I spent time with my grandparents who had a little cottage close by.
The wine was made by the winery’s Red Wine Specialist, Wilhelm Coetzee and his team
Perfectly paired with Dianne Bibby’s Spicy Mexican Cheese Plait with Manchego Cheese
