I have always viewed Groot Constantia as the cradle of the South African Wine Industry. Do get it high on your bucket list if you are a Capetonian or visiting on holiday. Such a special place with beautiful architecture, gleaming white walls and two excellent restaurants. The Wine Tasting Facility are very professional and the one at the entrance to the Estate as well as the one at the cellar give you the opportunity to taste the Estate’s sublime wines.
Boela Gerber, the much awarded wine maker, continues to produce excellent wines, both red and white and the fabulous Grande Constance, his take on the wine that made Constantia so famous in the late 18th and early 19th Century. Dickens, Baudelaire and Jane Austen wrote about it, the Kings and rulers in Europe had the wines in their cellars.
The Groot Constantia MCC Brut Rosé is a most perfect wine for Valentine’s Day, watching the sun go down with a sumptuous picnic or in a fine dining estatblishment, or indeed at home.
