We are bang in the middle of the Winter School Holidays. What better time for your youngster to get involved in a little cookery at The Table Bay Hotel. Our young children watch the television cookery show with us and more of my friends’ children are showing an interest in food and wanting to learn how to cook. The Table Bay Hotel on the V & A Waterfront, so perfectly situated in Cape Town’s very busy harbour, is in the middle of its Mini Chefs Workshops programme. This year there is a lift in the real-life learning and opening of children’s eyes to the wonder of food and exciting cooking techniques.
This Saturday July 7th, the Mini Chefs Workshop is all about Techniques of different types of dough. When I was at Cookery School in London, we were taught all kinds of dough making. The one I remember best is the technique of bread making. MSKRSPB. Mrs Smith knits red socks pretty badly, the first letter of each word being a stage in the process. Mixing, Sponging, Kneading, Rising, Shaping, Proving and Baking.
Would be Mini Chefs are invited to join the professionals at The Table Bay Hotel on Saturday 7th July at 13h00 to 15h00. Please do book ahead. The cost it R355.00 per child which includes the workshop, a recipe card and the final dough dish prepared.
Coming up in August in the Mini Chefs programme is Sticky BBQ Chicken drumsticks, with a selection of marinades. September offers Butter Cream and cake icing methods. October is Healthy Fish Burgers, using SASSI friendly sustainable fish and then finally in November it’s all about Frozen Dessert Techniques – just in time for Summer.
As the class ends at 15h00, it is a perfect time for the family to enjoy the renowned Table Bay Hotel High Tea which takes place in the fabulous large airy lounge.
