OLDENBURG VINEYARDS PER SE CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2019, PERFECT WITH DIANNE BIBBY’S RED WINE OXTAIL…

Oldenburg Vineyards Per Se Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

Oldenburg Vineyards is in the cooler part of the Stellenbosch Wine Appellation, The Banghoek Valley. Surrounded by mountain reaching up to the sky, there is an enchanting little hillock known as Rondekop. Made up of ferricrete soils, vines grown here have roots set deep down which extract much flavour for the final wines. The Oldenburg Vineyards Per Se Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, which winemaker Nic van Aarde has polished up to present its very best to loyal Oldenburg Wine drinkers. Selected from the finest Cabernet barrels of 225 litre and 300 litre French Oak Barrels, blended to show the 8 natural elements found on the Estate at their finest. Per Se is Latin for ́in and of itself ́.

Given the ideal growing conditions, this Cabernet Sauvignon earns its name with pride and conviction. Various elements keep the sunny aspect of the hill cooler during the day and combined with cooler nighttime temperatures allow for slow ripening and development of the perfect flavour spectrum in the grapes.

Oldenburg Barrel Cellar

Pour

From a Bordeaux shaped bottle, closed with natural cork. The quirky label shows up the 8 natural element I referred to before. In the glass, a gembright dark ruby at the heart which pales out at the edges. Superb, take me back to the Garonne, aromas of black and blue and red berries, oak spice, violets, and other florals. On entry the wine is rich and generous on the palate, the fabulous fruit, full mid palate, lovely line of acidity and a harmonious and a long and gently waning aftertaste. A truly impressive glass. The wine will reward with anything over 10 years of cool cellaring.
