Oldenburg Vineyards is a family-owned Wine Estate in the Banghoek Valley, the cooler side of the Stellenbosch Wine Appellation. Here, with the unique terroir and aspects. Nic van Aarde makes some utterly delicious wines. I have a feeling that this one he has made because it is the most special Summer drinking wine. Great on its own as a sipper and a great food partner.

Chardonnay, the ‘just’ major grape in the blend

The Chardonnay [54%] and Chenin Blanc Grapes [46%] in this blend are sourced entirely from the Oldenburg Vineyards.

Harvested from the Riverland blocks, these vines are planted in rich alluvial soils. 20% of the wine was oaked in previous fill 300l French oak barrels for 8 months, while the rest was tank fermented, using a combination of spontaneous fermentation from natural vineyard yeasts and inoculation with cultured yeasts. This cooler climate elevates the quality of the Estate’s grapes and wine significantly, through slower and more even ripening.

Pour

From a Bordeaux shaped bottle, under screw cap. The label is simple, and elegant. The colour of the wine in the glass is pale straw in colour with lemony flashes. The aromas are all about a mélange of fruits. Granadilla, white guava, and pink grapefruit skin oil. These meet on the palate where the entry is zippy with a wonderful acidity line. The wine is rich and generous, enchanting floral notes with soft citrus, Granny Smith Apples and pear drops. Wonderful long and gently waning aftertaste. You feel the joy when you drink this wine.
