Interesting wine – and utterly delicious. The Godelia Godello is one of the few white wines from the Spanish Wine Appellation of El Bierzo which is aged for 5 months on the lees in stainless steel tanks. The grapes used are 90% Godello and 10% Doña Blanca.
The Godello vines are between 30 to 60 years old and Doña Blanca vines 60 to 80 years of age. Selection of the grapes starts at manual harvesting when the grapes are placed on 15kg lug boxes. Once in the cellar, the grapes are chilled and passed over a manual sorting table and then destemmed. Pressing took place in the absence of oxygen. The juice was then taken to tanks and cold fermented. This is followed by 5 months crianza in the tank on the fine lees, During this time regular bâtonnage took place. This is the regular stirring of the lees to add flavour to the wine. After this, the wine was prepared for bottling. The wine is fresh and characterful. Ideal for sitting and chatting with friends.
Pour
From a Burgundy shaped bottle with a simple, elegant label. In the glass, the wine is a bright lemony straw in colour. The aromas are beguilingly fruity with peach and apricot, with lemon, lime and orange peel and a whiff of white flowers. On entry, the palate us deliciously creamy and elegant, with the aromas segueing seamlessly on to the palate. There is an undertow of minerals and rock salt and a wonderfully crisp and fresh line of acidity.
