Flagstone Poetry Cinsault Rosé 2016

Gerhard Swart Wine Maker at Flagstone Wines, produces some really seriously delicious wines. The Flagstone Poetry Cinsault Rosé 2016 amongst them. An any time wine not necessarily meant for summer only, but my goodness, does it work well in summer. Gerhard sticks to the Flagstone philosophy of making wine that respects our 350-year-old winemaking heritage, while always celebrating the magnificence of nature. We want to make gorgeous wines that stimulate your brain as much as they please your taste buds.

Gerhard Swart, Flagstone’s much Awarded Wine Maker

At Flagstone they say “Poetry is about pared-down words, making, forming, creating. It is art, the essence of language, meaning a fundamental creative act using language. Accomplished poetry is a distillation of language so that meaning shines through. Powerful poetry is utter, it pulls no punches and is not concerned with excuses. It celebrates the joy and highlights the natural sadness of our human condition, poetry eulogises the cycle of nature. Poetry is romantic, poignant and it shows the compulsion of our heart, the engine of our ambition and the spirit of desire. We don’t expect our simple offerings to do all of this of course, but we hope our authentic work and insistence on integrity carries a message of hope and love long after the last delicious sip.” Just what we need for 2019, a message of hope and love.

Cinsault grapes hanging on the vine, large loose berried bunches

Made from Cinsault grapes from a number of regions, therefore classified as a Western Cape Wine, the Flagstone Poetry Cinsault Rosé 2016 is made in the same way as a white wine with the juice being taken off the skins as soon as they requisite colour is reached. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, with no oaking taking place. The wine is then prepared for bottling.

From a clear glass Bordeaux shaped bottle under screw cap. The label has a Flagstone stamp to it with a lovely illustration of flowers. In the glass, it is a gem bright cherry blossom pink. The aromas are of summer berries, red and black, ripe sappy cherries with an undertow of sweet spices. The palate is dry and full bodied filled with juicy summer berry and cherry fruits and ends soft in the fruit filled finish.

The ultimate summer sipper, mid-morning, with lunch, at sundown and with dinner served out on the patio. It is excellent with food and Jane Anne Hobbs’s Delicate Double Salmon Fish Cakes are the perfect lunch partners for the Flagstone Poetry Cinsault Rosé 2016. Click here for her recipe.
