Pieter Ferreira degorging Bubbles from the Cape
The Cap Classique Producers Association us celebrating 50 years since he first Champagne style was made by Frans Malan on Simonsig Wine Estate, at Koelenhof in the Stellenbosch Wine Appellation. Kaapse Vonkel [Cape Sparkle] has become a legend in its own lifetime.
The second Cap Classique was made at Boschendal, by then Cellarmaster Achim von Arnim. He had Jean-Louis Denois, a young French Champagne Maker, working as an intern in the cellar at the time. Again, Boschendal Brut has become a legendary wine. Boschendal is in the Paarl Wine Appellation.
The third Cap Classique was produced by Jeff Grier at Villiera Wine Estate in the following year. He was assisted also by Jean-Louis Denois. Villiera Tradition also has a place in the Cape’s Cap Classique History.
