This is an extremely special brandy. Born not out of a desire by Martin Moore, Durbanville Hills Founding Wine Maker, and Johan Venter, internationally acclaimed spirits connoisseur and brandy expert to be able to finish a meal with a fine Durbanville Hills potstilled brandy. Some ten years later after patient waiting, this fine Durbanville Hills Merlot Potstill Brandy, produced from cool-climate Merlot grapes, matured for 10 years in French oak, and finished in Durbanville Hills Merlot barrels offers an unprecedented unique experience.
Pour from a bespoke bottle, elegantly labelled and closed with natural cork. In the glass, it is a beautiful amber in colour. The aromas are of red country lane fruits, brambles and mulberries. Cedary oak is joined by vanilla and brown spices with an appealing undertow of mint. On entry, the palate is a mélange of red berry fruits, crisp cherry snaps, creamy milk chocolate and a fynbos herbaceousness. It’s a weighty mouthfeel, with the oak and fruit in perfect harmony, which glides easily over the tongue while the aftertaste lingers gently. A very impressive glass..
So good at the end of a meal, with little chocolate dragées with an almond in the middle. If you have more savoury tastes, parmesan crisps are perfect.
