We are constantly reminded by producers of the beauty of Stellenbosch Cabernet Sauvignon and here we have a wine which says it all. The wine has already claimed a Gold award at Veritas Awards 2021. Well known and by British Master of Wine Tim Atkin gave the wine 91 points. The first single variety Cabernet Sauvignon wine bottled under the Delheim name was produced in 1958.The Delheim Cabernet Sauvignon 2018 was aged or 14 months in 300-litre French Oak Barrels of which 45% were new.
Roloef Lotriet, The Delheim Winemaker
Pour
From an appropriately Bordeaux shaped bottle, closed with natural cork. The label is simple and elegant. In the glass, the wine is a rich dark plum in colour which pales out to ruby at the edges. Th aromas fair jump out of the glass, Ribena, and then the earthiness of petrichor and newly turned sods of earth. And then, of course the spice and vanilla of the perfectly applied and supportive oak. The palate, on entry, has a fine line of acidity and gentle tannins. It is rich and generously fruited with a gently waning silken aftertaste. A very impressive glass. You will be rewarded if you cool cellar it for a couple of years as Roelof Lotriet says, “It will continue to improve long after vintage.”
