De Wetshof Nature in Concert Pinot Noir 2022

De Wetshof Wine Estate in the Robertson Wine Appellation has been owned and managed by the De Wet Family for three generations. The family specializes in Chardonnay, in fact is known as The House of Chardonnay. Other Noble varieties also have pride of place in this fabled Cellar and the De Wetshof Nature in Concert Pinot Noir 2022 is one of them.

Pinot Noir grapes taking advantage of the morning sun

Harvested usually before dawn before the summer heat rises in the vineyards, the grapes are taken to the cellar where they are removed from the stalks and the resultant mash is taken to stainless steel tanks for soaking on the skins before fermentation. After this process, the wine is racked off, added to pressed wine and taken to French Oak Barrels. After malolactic fermentation, the wine off the lees goes to new barrels for maturation which takes place over 12 to 15months.

From a Burgundy shaped bottle closed with natural cork. Classical De Wetshof livery. In the glass, the wine is opaque, and with good colour, bloodplum at the heat which pales out to ruby at the edges. The aromas, like are complex with aromas segueing on to the palate. Red and black berries and cherries. However, it is not only out sweet ripe fruit, there is also a brilliant acidity line running through the wine, a good tannin structure and the oak and its concomitant spice and vanilla. An impressive glass already and eminently drinkable. You will be rewarded after a couple of years of cool cellaring.
