De Wetshof Limestone Hill Chardonnay 2022

De Wetshof Wine Estate was the first to be proclaimed as an Estate in the Robertson Wine Appellation. Owned and managed by the De Wet family over three generations since 1949, While De Wetshof is fabled as a Chardonnay producer, there are other noble grape varieties at which they are equally adept.

Danie & Lesca de Wet

I remember some years ago, when I was doing a radio interview with Danie de Wet, he said the time would come when vines are old enough, we would be able to make Chardonnay untrammeled by oak where the fruit would shine. And so, it is.

The grapes for the Limestone Hill come from four different blocks on the Estate. These have an abundance of free lime with a healthy clay component. This adds structure and complexity to the wine and allows it to show its primary flavours of grapefruit and roasted hazelnuts.
