Grand Vin de Stellenbosch Sauvignon Blanc 2022
Bernard Fontannaz founded Origin Vineyards which is a premium wine busines built on vineyards which he owns in South Africa, Argentina and Switzerland, He bought Le Grand Domaine in 2016, which is in the Devon Valley in the Stellenbosch Wine Appellation.

Here he has created a ‘Chateau Concept’ to produce fine Bordeaux Blends which come from carefully selected vines. All in the cause of raising the profile of the wines from Devon Valley.
Debbie Thompson
Le Grand Domaine’s Head Winemaker is Award Winning Debbie Thompson. Debbie graduated from Stellenbosch University and then worked as Winemaker at Simonsig Wine Estate for 20 years before joining Le Grand Domaine, where she has already put her stamp on the sublime wines of the Estate.
Sauvignon Blanc – just harvested
The grapes for this wine are chosen from two vineyard blocks about 14 years old. Specific parcels within those blocks showed Debbie their quality. They were picked in the cool of the early morning before the summer heat rose in the vineyards. This was followed by destalking and crushing and then allowing three hours skin contact before going to press where a low juice recovery took place to extract the best from the grapes.

After fermentation and lying on the lees for as long as possible with regular batonnage to enhance the mouthfeel, the wine is prepared for bottling.
