A pair of Durbanville Hills Shiraz Wines. So good with your Valentine’s Day Dinner, Lizet Hartley’s Rolled Brisket Pot Roast with Samp…

Durbanville Hills Shiraz 2019

Durbanville Hills Winery is situated at the ed of a promontory which looks out over Table Mountain and The Atlantic Ocean and receives cooling breezes off the chilly Benguela current, so beneficial to the vineyards in the heat of Summer.

Founding Cellarmaster, Martin Moore

I haven’t spoken about the sublime red wines which emanate from this cellar. Founding Cellarmaster, Martin Moore and his Red Wine Specialist, Wilhelm Coetzee and his team have produced a fine pair of Shirazs. The one above, made grapes from a series of vineyards. It has all the attributes of a fine Shiraz. Lovely ruby red at the heart in the glass. Aromas, much as expected, ripe dark fruits, sweet spices, silken tannins and a great acidity line running though into the long waning aftertaste.

The Durbanville Hills, Collector’s Reserve, The High Noon Shiraz

This is a Shiraz with a University Education. Much deeper in colour, blood plum at the heat, paling out to ruby at the edge. Inviting deep red and black berry fruits and plums, purple flowers and a good grind of pepper. The palate from entry has a beautiful acidity line running through into the aftertaste. The tannins show themselves with a gentle grip. Rich and generous spiced fruit and cedar wood in  the aftertaste.

Pair

For both of these wines, I recommend Lizet Hartley’s Rolled Brisket Pot Roast with Samp. Wonderful full flavours to match the wines perfectly. And Samp, a traditional dish which too many of us ignore. Click HERE for her recipe.
