Valentine’s Day #2, Clos Malverne Ellie 2018, Shiraz Cap Classique Rosé, excellent with Dianne Bibby’s Prosciutto Strawberry and Feta Salad…

Clos Malverne Ellie 2018, Shiraz Cap Classique Rosé

Clos Malverne is a wine estate in the beautiful Devon Valley at the very heart of the Stellenbosch Wine Appellation. IP Smit is the winemaker and the winery produces a wide range of premier wines, including several from older vintages.

Sophia & Seymour Pritchard

The wine is named for Ellie, mother of Sophia Pritchard. The Pritchards have owned and managed the estate since the 1980s and the first bottling was in 1986. Seymour is a. great proponent of Pinotage. Sophia looks after the export market, while their daughter Belinda runs a spa on the Estate. I have also eaten very well at the Estate’s restaurant, the view from which reminds me so much of Tuscany.

The Clos Malverne Ellie 2018, Shiraz Cap Classique Rosé Is made from grapes from a single vineyard on the valley floor. The grapes are basket pressed and the only brief skin contact the grapes have with the juice is in the press.

Dianne Bibby’s Prosciutto, Strawberry and Feta Salad

Excellent with the usual oysters or fired whitebait or little snacky bits on bruschetta. My recommendation is Dianne Bibby’s Prosciutto, Strawberry and Feta Salad. Click HERE to get her recipe. Do have a good look at her website too.
