Nuy Argilla 2020 Cape Blend one of two gems from Nuy Winery
Nuy Argilla 2020 Cape Blend
I love this wine, it is a ‘Cape Blend’ which means that it is has a high Pinotage component. Beautiful dark bloodplum at the heart which pales out to ruby at the edge. The aromas are of brilliant sweet ripe berry fruits like strawberries and raspberries, and undertow of crushed tomato leaves. Over a year in both French and America Oak Barrels has left delicate traces of oak spice, and vanilla. A truly delicious glass. Excellent with red meats off the braai, out of the oven, off the plancha or out of a pan.
Parmigiana di Melanzane – a perfect vegetarian dish with the Argilla
Nuy Legacy Calcareo 2020 – the second gem
Nuy Legacy Calcareo 2020
Excellent handling of Chenin Blanc here. We are lucky to have a fine grape like this in our vineyards. Each expression in the bottle a different one. This Chenin Blanc is fermented in a combination of five new and second fill French Oak Barrels for 12 months. The vines are grown in chalky soils, hence the name Calcareo is a derivative of calcareous which indicates a chalky soil from whence cometh the grapes.
Raw Courgette Salad with Feta – good as a first course with the Calcareo
In the glass the wine is pale straw in colour with flashes of lime green. The aromas are classical Chenin. Granny Smith apples, soft dried apricots, oak spice and vanilla. There is a beautiful line of acidity running through the palate which reprises the aromas and has a long and gently waning crisp aftertaste.
