The way we used to eat….

James McKenzie of Nabygelegen, the well known Wine Estate in Wellington, sent me this menu from the old Carlton Hotel in Johannesburg which I thought I would share.

At more or less the same time at Lanzerac in Stellenbosch, the famous Cheese Lunch was being offered at 95c per person.  It consisted of Soup, Salad, 20 different cheeses, 6 types of iscuits, the iconic Lanzerac Brown Bread, pickled onions, green fig and watermelon konfyt, a cup of coffee and a glass of wine.  The wines were Chateaus Libertas and La Gratitude.
