The third annual Groot Plaasproe from Saturday 12 to Sunday 13 October 2019 at Sandringham outside Stellenbosch promises a taste experience of everything that farm life offers!
In fact, there is a feast of farm food to choose from; festival goers can also get up close with more than 300 farm animals and win prizes by showing off their braai and dance skills. No wonder this festival was awarded one of the exhibition industry’s prestige awards, the AAXO (Association of African Exhibition Organisers) ROAR Award as “Best Trade and Consumer Exhibition in Africa”, for two years consecutively.
Food lovers can enjoy unique combinations such as “Bok & Bier” (Boer goat meat and craft beer), treat their taste buds on International Pinotage Day (12 October) and relish tasty farm food creations such as “roosterkoek”, venison, “skaapstertjies”, local wine and gin, Karoo lamb kebabs, Wagyu hamburgers, speciality bread and handmade ice cream. Top braaiers can enter the Braai Crew’s “braaibroodjie” and other braai competitions
Meet over 300 different farm animals, see sheep dogs at work and find out where the milk in the bottle comes from. Brand new this year is an Arabian horse show that promises to be spectacular. Children can ride on ponies, make their own “stokbrood”, take selfies with miniature horses and enter their bunnies into a pet rabbit show. Old and young can show off with boeresport and an ice cream-eating competition. Learn to master line-dancing alongside 250 line-dancers and “langarm” and “sokkie” (dance) to the beat of popular artists.
The festival takes place daily from 10:00 to 18:00. Tickets are available at Computicket and the gate at R120 for adults and R30 for scholars. Entrance is free for children under age six years. Saturday tickets include access to Agri-Expo Livestock, a world-class exhibition of the South African livestock and dairy industries, with the crowning of the FNB Dairy Queen and the BKB Red Meat King as its highlight.
