I tasted this with Leon Coetzee of The Fledge & Company which he and his wife, Margaux Nel own and operate. There is not one wine in the range which is short of being truly interesting, different and totally wonderful to drink.
A blend of a variety of Pinot Noir clones, Clone 777 from sandstone over clay along the Palmiet River in Grabouw, Clone 115 grown in Bokkeveld Shale in Elgin, Clone 115 planted in the shale soils pf the Tradouw, [this vineyard sadly lost to fire recently] and then finally the Swiss Clone BK5 from calcareous red alluvial soils in the Karoo.
Hand harvested, cold soaked and then matured on previously filled 300 litre French oak barrels the wine is neither fined nor filtered.
Beautifully translucent, whiffs of berries and cherries, petrichor, crisp, fresh and a perfect food wine.
