The Delaire Graff Wine Estate – a luxurious, multi layered, world class, winelands experience…

The Delaire Graff Wine Estate

A visit to the Delaire Graff Estate is a very sensual experience. Wine, art, hospitality in the most majestic of Stellenbosch Mountain settings. The works of art strike you even on the way up the driveway to the parking area. Impressive large sculptures, and in particular Dylan Lewis’s amazing animal bronzes. As you enter the lobby, you are greeted by the iconic Tretchikoff painting of The Chinese Girl. Other works of art are a feast for the senses.

Tretchikoff’s The Chinese Girl

There is an excellent portrait of Laurence Graff, the owner and one of the world’s important diamond dealers and jewellers. The Estate offers a rare chance for art aficionados to view some of Laurence Graff’s personal art collection in an outstanding setting. Frequently named one of the world’s top art collectors, Laurence Graff’s collection at the Estate is a carefully curated showcase of some of South Africa’s finest contemporary artists. He has made a paradise of this Estate.

A quiet place in the Delaire Graff Gardens

Your visit will be enhanced by the beauty of the setting and the magnificent gardens, a true paradise of flora in the Estate’s dramatic mountain setting. Hectares of colour especially planted to reflect the changing seasons, are spectacularly in bloom every day of the year. Flora and fauna play a very special role here on the Estate as an incredible living backdrop for our art and sculpture ‒ a fragrant, peaceful garden retreat.

The Delaire Graff Wine Lounge

The service on the Estate, even on a day visit, starts with charming parking attendants who will offer you a ride in a golf cart should you park a but far away from the buildings. The Wine Lounge is the place to go to to taste your way through the Estate’s sublime wines made by the Estate’s Winemaker, the much awarded Morné Vrey.  Expert wine ambassadors will offer you snack to nibble on while you taste. Be sure to buy a case or two while you are there to take home to remind you of what will be a very happy visit.

The Graff Diamond Boutique

The Graff Diamond Boutique is a display of the ultimate luxury of Diamond Jewellery. There are a couple of other boutiques offering superb clothing and handbags.

Having spent a night in the Lodges at Delaire Graff, I can attest to the supreme luxury and service offered of the accommodation on the Estate. The Lodges look out over the Simonsberg, the most iconic of the Stellenbosch Mountains. Peace pervades and the ultimate feeling of escape. Each Lodge has its own private sundeck with heated plunge pool and our guests enjoy access to our Lodge bar and private cinema, gourmet restaurant Indochine, our restorative Spa and Techno gym.

Kevin Grobler, plating up

The dining experience at Delaire Graff Estate is a celebration of flavour combined with fine wine. The Delaire Graff Restaurant offers sweeping views of the mountains and the Banghoek Valley. The patio offers a perfect South African outdoor eating experience. The Executive Chef of the Delaire Graff Restaurant is Kevin Grobler. Read my interview with him, CLICK HERE

Virgil Kahn, plating up

The kitchen of Indochine, the Asian inspired restaurant in The Lodges, is presided over by Virgil Kahn, an exceptionally talented Cape Town born and bred chef. Only recently did Virgil visit the East, before that he natural feel and expertise drove him towards some sublime food. I have not eaten there since his trip, though I look forward to a meal there on a future visit to the Winelands.

Both the Restaurants are provided with herbs and saladings and Asian vegetables from by the Estate’s own vegetable greenhouses.

The Delaire Graff Estate is, as they say in the Guide Michelin, well worth the drive. A sublime experience for all the senses…
