Stellenbosch Hills Chenin Blanc 2021
Stellenbosch Hills Winery is at the very heart of the Stellenbosch Wine Appellation. The Winery has just released the latest vintages of its Chenin Blanc 2021 and the Merlot 2018.
Chenin Blanc ripening on an old vine
Chenin Blanc being the most planted wine grape in South Africa, it goes that this former Co-operative Winery will receive a good tonnage of the grape at harvest time.
PG Slabbert – Stellenbosch Hills Cellarmaster for 25 years
The decision to premiumise the wines has led to some extremely special wines being produced under the very experienced hand of PJ Slabbert, Cellarmaster since 1997.
To celebrate this launch Ilse van der Merwe, also known as The Food Fox, has created a Paprika Mushroom Soup, in the Hungarian style.
Stellenbosch Hills Chenin Blanc 2021, with the Paprika Mushroom Soup
Packed in a Bordeaux shaped bottle and closed with a screw cap. In the glass, the wine is a pale straw colour with youthful lime green flashes. The aromas are of a freshly opened granadilla, with an undertow of Golden Delicious Apple, White Flowers, and fynbos honey. The segue on to the palate with the addition of melon and tropical fruits and a delicious lemony acidity line which runs from entry through the rich and generous palate into the long aftertaste.
Stellenbosch Hills Merlot 2018
In the same packaging as the Chenin Blanc with its elegant label. In the glass, the wine is plum coloured at the heart which pales out to ruby at the edges. The aromas are soft and gentle, sweet red and blackberries and country lane fruits and plums. These roll on to the palate with its lovely line of acidity, soft tannins and support of oak with its concomitant spice and vanilla. Awarded with a Double Gold at the 2021 National Wine Challenge and was named Red Wine of the Year in the 2021 Ultra Value Wine Challenge.
