The home of Peter Falke Wines is on Groenvlei Farm on the well-known Annandale Road in the foothills of the Helderberg Mountains in the Stellenbosch Wine Appellation. The strip down the Helderberg is well known for its red wines. It sits in the path of cool afternoon breezes off False Bay which ameliorate the summer heat in the vineyards. This means longer hang time and slower ripening of the grapes, building up flavour for the ultimate wine.
The team at Peter Falke Wines are careful during the hand harvesting process and select bunches which are in good condition with no unburnt or raisined grapes. Once in the cellar, the bunches grapes for the Peter Falke PF Chardonnay 2016 were resorted to ensure that only the finest grapes went through for destemming and crushing. The wine was fermented and matured in third fill 225 litre French oak barrels. During this time, the barrels were either rolled or subjected to batonnage which kept the lees in suspension which builds up flavours, smoothness and creaminess on the palate and helps to better integrate the oak flavours into the wine. The wine was then prepared for bottling
It looks like
Bottled in a Burgundy shaped bottle under natural cork closure. The label is elegant and silver foiled. In the glass, a pale golden straw with lime green flashes.
It smells like
Ripe greengage plums and white fleshed peaches. Vibrant citrus whiffs.
It tastes like
Generous fruit on entry supported by the gentle oaking. Lovely full creamy palate leading into a long waning ending.
It’s good with
The light oaking makes it a great glass on its own. It is a perfect food wine. Alida Ryder’s Easy Creamy Cashew Chicken Curry with warm Roti is the most perfect partner. Click here for her recipe.
