The sublime Peter Falke Wines are made on Groenvlei Farm up the Annandale Road in the foothills of the Helderberg. Well known as the home of fine wines, the slopes of the Helderberg are open to afternoon sun and cooling breezes off False Bay ameliorating the summer heat in the vineyards. This allows grapes to hang longer and for the flavour to improve. The Peter Falke PF Blanc de Noir 2018 is an expression of a fine Stellenbosch Cabernet Sauvignon, in summer format. Cabernet Sauvignon has as a parent, Sauvignon Blanc, so it happily pulls on a cloak of a white wine
The grapes for the Peter Falke PF Blanc de Noir 2018 are grown on the estate and harvest in the early morning and brought to the cellar where GM & Wine Maker Werner Schrenk and his team destalk and crush them gently in the press for minimum colour extraction. The juice was drained off and allowed to settle for two days, before brilliant clear juice was taken to stainless steel tanks for fermentation. After this, the wine was prepared for bottling.
It looks like
Bottled under natural cork in a clear glass bottle, with a pink and silver label. In the glass it is a gem bright pale pink, like a pink diamond.
It smells like
Crunchy watermelon. Ripe wood strawberries, floral whiffs.
It tastes like
From entry, a lovely line of crisp fruit acidity runs through to the ending. Full on the mid palate with flavours of ripe white skinned peaches, the strawberries and spun sugar. Ends so smooth it feels as though it has been pulled through a silk scarf.
It’s good with
This is the perfect mid-morning refresher or sundowner wine. It is great with food. Alida Ryder’s Creamy Lemon Garlic Shrimp Pasta is just the most perfect partner for a lunch under the pergola. Click here for her recipe.
