Jean Vincent Ridon writes “I know the hospitality industry is receiving dark news every day so I will try to bring a bit of fun in this prohibitionist environment. I have been published my first book on food pairing, the launch was planned for the 27th of March, so it has been put on ice as we say in the hospitality industry.
16 Chefs worked with me on this project focusing only on South African products. We may not dine with them for the moment, but you can enjoy their talents once combined with our most exciting wine producers (and brewers), and by reading the book.”
SIGNAL HILL WINERY, owned by Jean Vincent Ridon is one of the leading wineries of South Africa. Located in the heart of Cape Town, on the tip of the African Continent, SIGNAL HILL is the only city winery in the middle of a capital of the world. The choice of the city centre to set up a winery is an old European tradition, where from Beaune to Riquewihr, the wineries are in the city… This was also the case in Cape Town during the 19th century when many wineries where located in the city centre.
It is important to note that the city bowl of Cape Town is the historic centre of the South African wine industry as the first wine was produced in the Castle, in 1659, from grapes grown in the Compagnie’s Gardens. Grapes were only planted in Constantia and Stellenbosch much later.
Created in 1997 by Jean Vincent Ridon, SIGNAL HILL was one of the first boutique wineries in South Africa, at a time of transition, when the world of wine and the South African wine industry rediscovered that small is beautiful…
I have seen Passion for Pairing as an e-book, and I must say, it is a beautiful piece of work and something that I would want in my kitchen. There are some very exciting recipes with perfect wine pairings.
This 248 pages luxury coffee table book (30cm by 24cm) will not be widely distributed for the moment since restaurants and wineries are closed, and bookshop have limited new listings, but we decided to launch it anyway so we can build up some excitement for when the industry reopens.
In the meantime online sales are available on shop.winery.co.za
