Oldenburg Vineyard Series Cabernet Franc 2015

Oldenburg Vineyards, high up in the Banghoek Valley in the Stellenbosch Wine Appellation, has rushed into the stratosphere over the last years and is now recognised as one of the finest premium wine producers. The Oldenburg Vineyard Series Cabernet Franc 2015 comes from what is regarded as the best vintage this century.

The vines of the Oldenburg Vineyard Series Cabernet Franc 2015 were judiciously irrigated when required. At ideal ripeness the grapes were hand harvested and first sorting took place there. A second berry and bunch sorting took place in the cellar and the grapes were carefully destalked and then allowed to macerate in the juice for three days before fermentation. This results in gentle colour, aroma and soft tannin extraction. Once fermented, the wine was were matured for 19 months in 300l French oak barrels of which 25% were new oak, 38% were 3rd fill barrels, 20% were 4th fill barrels and 17% were 5th fill barrels. All to gently support the fabulous fruit in this wine rather than overpower it. After oak barrel maturation, the wines were blended and then prepared for bottling.

Pour
From a Bordeaux shaped bottle, closed with natural cork. The label is from the new range, elegant and simple. In the glass, the Oldenburg Vineyards Series Cabernet Franc 2015 is a deep bloodplum at the heart which pales out to ruby at the edges. Generous aromas of cherries, marzipan and squashed mulberries. The palate is rich and full and sappy. Red berry fruits, roadside fennel seeds. The long and generous, refreshing aftertaste is in perfect balance, fruit, oak, tannins and fruit acids all in harmony. Lovely, lovely wine, bold statement, though offers elegance.
