I love a wine with a good story. Somehow makes it taste more interesting. 50 years ago, this year, Frans Malan made the first Champagne style wine with a second fermentation in the bottle. He called it Kaapse Vonkel and the style is now known as Méthode Cap Classique, shortened as we always tend to do to MCC.
Johan Malan, the current Cellarmaster and owner of Simonsig Wine Estate with his brother Francois, the Estate’s Vineyardist, won the 40th Diners Club Winemaker of the Year Award late last year with this wine.
