There is quite a lot of chatter on the interwebs about Asara’s fabulous wines and the excellent hotel. It is situated in the rolling hills of Polkadraai, hidden from the road. The hotel has the most fabulous views of the Helderberg and the Stellenbosch Mountains.
Lucullus was Roman warrior, famed for his banqueting. His name is now used to refer to foods, generous, gourmet and luxurious.
Lucullan adventures are freely found on the Estate, from simple coffees and teas, scones and bakes at the Deli to a fine dining experience at Mise en Place and places in between.
Full English Breakfast, with all the trimmings
Raphaels French Toast with Friend Banana
You can start in the morning at Raphael’s, where the most fabulous breakfast buffet is offered plus a variety of hot dishes.
Cream Scones at The Deli
The Deli is the place to be in the mornings and afternoons. The Bell Tower rings out at 10h00 and 14h30 when hot scones come out of the oven. There is a brilliant selection of chocolates, macarons, breads, desserts and homemade ice creams.
A good place to visit for a gin or gin cocktail before lunch or late afternoon sundowners or pre-dinner drinks, is the Sansibar Gin Lounge. Perhaps the biggest selection of gins in the country – over 350 – with mixologists who all have excellent gin knowledge. Here or on the patio, the menu offers dishes from a wood fired oven and platters.
Mise en place, Asara’s Fine Dining Restaurant
Mise en place is Asara’s fine dining restaurant. With a fabulous view over a dam to the mountains, the restaurant offers a sophisticated menu and brilliant service. The wine list is impressive as is the vinotheque which has a large eclectic selection of wines. Below are a couple of photographs of the Food.
With all the wonderful food, there are some sublime Asara Wines which would be suitable for the full range of delights awaiting you.
One of my current favourites is the Asara Vineyard Collection Pinotage Rosé 2017. A great summery food wine, with enough guts to match fully flavoured dishes – and the scones and strawberry jam.
