Landskroon Wine Estate is situated on the Southeast facing slopes of the Paarl Mountain in the Paarl wine Appellation, The Estate has been owned and managed by the De Villiers Family through 5 generations, each Cellarmaster has been named Paul. Originally more well known for its red wines and Port Style wines for which Paul V won the Diner’s Club Winemaker of the year award. The Estate is well planted with Portuguese Port varieties and the Cape Vintage is a superb example of this style of wine.
The wine is fermented in open fermenting tanks with regular punch downs. A year is spent in French Oak Barrels of various ages before the wine is prepared for bottling,
From a Bordeaux shaped bottle, closed with natural cork. The label is of the elegant new design which is being slowly rolled out across the range of wines as vintages change. In the glass, a rich bloodplum at the heart which pales out to a purple tinged ruby at the edges. The aromas are of the expected blackcurrants, blueberries, and a touch of raspberry. The oak and its cedar spice and vanilla are a supporting presence. A fine example of a Cabernet Sauvignon.
The Landskroon Cabernet Sauvignon 2018 is a superior sipper. With a meal, it is a good partner to Alida Ryder’s Grilled Sirloin Steak with Anchovy Compound Butter. After a meal with some shavings of Dalewood Fromage Huguenot, it is pure pleasure. For Alida’s recipe, CLICK HERE.
