La Cave Pinotage 2019, covered in Veritas Gold and Double Gold Awards. Worthy of every sticker on the bottle. Perfect with crackly roast Pork Belly…

La Cave Pinotage 2019

La Cave is a premium range of wine produced at Wellington Wines where Francois van Niekerk, himself a maker of superb wines, is the CEO.

Pinotage, as we know is a uniquely South African red wine grape created by Professor Abraham Perold, though he never tasted the wine as he died in 1942, the year in which his friend Charles Theron de Waal produce the first barrel. It had to wait a while before it achieved fame as the 1959 Vintage of Lanzerac Pinotage did in 1961.

Wellington Wine Appellation

Wellington flies well under the radar sadly as the wines from this unique Wine Appellation are really so utterly sublime.

Pinotage ripening on the vine

The La Cave Pinotage 2019 was matured in new French Oak Barrels. This shows not only respect from the winemakers for Pinotage, but also provides the perfect support for the intensity of the concentration of the brilliant fruit. With a perfect line of acidity and fine tannins. Eminently drinkable now, though will certainly reward you after a couple of years of cool cellaring.
