Jordan Wine Estate Timepiece Sauvignon Blanc 2020
One does not turn down an invitation to lunch from Gary Jordan, the owner of Jordan Wine Estate in Stellenbosch Kloof. And to eat Marthinus Ferreira’s mesmerising food made for a truly happy day.
Here are a couple of pics of Marthinus’s food, as always theatrical, humorous, and so so good.
Marthinus Ferreira – one of the finest chefs in the Winelands
We drink the truly excellent Jordan Timepiece Sauvignon Blanc. Fermentation took place in both oak barrels and Clay Amphorae. 67% of the juice was barrel fermented in 228 lire 2nd & 3rd fill French Oak barrels and 33% in 400 litre clay amphorae for a period of 6 months. Malolactic fermentation took place in both amphora and barrel. Amphora has the natural ability to keep the lees in constant suspense during fermentation. The wine was matured “sur-lie” for 6 months with occasional “barrel rolling” to add richness to the palate. Four barrels were natural ferment.

Packed in a beautiful bespoke box, the wine is bottled in a Burgundy shaped bottle, closed with natural cork. Elegantly labelled. In the glass it is a pale straw in colour with jade green flashes when held up to the light. The aromas are of fynbos herbs with elder flowers and melon. The palate, rich and generous and overflowing with goodly Sauvignon Blanc flavours, on entry, has a brisk line of acidity which runs through into the aftertaste, which is long, dry with a touch of sea mist.
Jordan Timepiece Chenin Blanc 2020
With the recent International Chenin Blanc Day, we almost opened Gary’s gift of the Timepiece Chenin Blanc 2020. We decided to tackle it later.
