Recently I recorded a podcast for ZA Confidential with John Fraser, website owner and old wine friend, Malcolm McDonald of Clientéle, Jeff Osborne from Gumtree Auto and Chris Hart, well known economist.
I took the wine and chose the sublime Jordan Estate, The Real McCoy Riesling 2018. You’ll hear my description of this wine; the Riesling Grape being described by the doyenne of British wine writing Jancis Robinson as the finest white wine grape in the world. No argument then about where her favour lies. We’d better not tell Chardonnay.
There are several fine examples of Riesling made in the Cape Winelands. Do be careful though, there is a wannabe Riesling which is usually referred to as Cape Riesling on the label. The grape is an inferior French grape called Crouchen Blanc.
