De Wetshof Bon Vallon Chardonnay 2021, a fine unoaked Chardonnay from the premier Chardonnay Specialists in the Robertson Wine Appellation…

De Wetshof Bon Vallon Chardonnay 2021

De Wetshof Wine Estate is a family owned and managed by the De Wet Family in the Robertson Wine Appellation, known not only for its fine wines, but also for its excellent roses and thoroughbred racehorses.

The grapes for the Bon Vallon were harvested in the cool of the morning before the Summer heat rose in the vineyards. Taken to the cellar, family Winemaker Peter de Wet and his team destalk crush and press them the Juice if taken to stainless steel tanks. Here it cool settles before being racked into fermentation tanks. After this the wine is left on its lees for a period during which batonnage occurs once a week. This builds up flavours on the mid-palate.

From a Burgundy shaped bottle, closed with natural cork. The label is simple and elegant and certainly makes a statement of a serious wine from a serious producer. In the glass it is a pale lemon hay in colour with some lime green flashes when held up to the light. The aromas really segue smoothly from nose to palate. The primary aromas are of citrus, roasted hazelnuts, and white flowers. The palate from entry is sappy, brisk, rich, and generous. Flavours continue in the long and very satisfying aftertaste. An impressive glass, perfect for now drinking. The De Wetshof Bon Vallon Chardonnay 2021 took a Gold Ward at the Veritas Awards earlier this year. Also in the 2021 coveted list of Top 100 wines, as selected by the American magazine Wine Spectator, the world’s most influential wine publication, the wine found a position there.
