People often ask me “what’s your favourite wine?” I, like André Simon, always feel that the wine I have in my glass is the best. In my glass at the moment are these two lovely wines.
Nativo Organic White Blend 2014
Divinely aromatic with an undertow of oak, with soft sundried apricots and yellow fleshed peaches and sweet tropical limes. Rich, full fruited. Nice and round in the mouth with the sappiness of tropical fruits and citrus.
Excellent with seafoods as in a Moroccan Tagine with mussels. Perfect with cold smoked chicken.
Alto Shiraz 2013
In the glass a rich opaque ruby which pales out to garnet at the rim. Rich black fruit, cassis, plums and spice on the nose. Big mouthful on entry with spiced prunes and plums. Interestingly creamy mouthfeel backed up by good firm tannins and a lovely long gently waning aftertaste.
Excellent partner for meat from the braai, casserole, grill or pan. Good with lusty vegetarian dishes like Baked Aubergine with concentrated tomato sauce with mushrooms and Parmigiana Reggiano.
