Kruger Family Wines Old Vines Palomino 2020
Johan and Sofie Kruger produce a wonderful range of wines from a variety of regions. Here he works with the farmer in a partnership. The partner in the case of the Kruger Family Wines Old Vines Palomino 2020, is Potgieter Van Zyl from the farm Bergendals in the high mountains of Piekenierskloof. Known for a variety of old Vines. The Palomino vines are 46 years old, and these Old Bush Vines give great concentration and complexity in the final wine.
A generosity of Palomino ripening in the sun
The grapes were whole bunch pressed and the juice was allowed to cool settle overnight before being taken to Concrete Egg-shaped fermenters, and previous fill French Oak barrels. Natural yeasts from the vineyards do the work. The wine is allowed to lie on its own gross lees for 5 months before being prepared for bottling.

The Kruger Family Wines Old Vines Palomino 2020 has major appeal in the surprise of the depth of colour and the whack of flavour you get which is perfectly supported by the oak, and the mineral, kelpy lees flavours.
Named Fransdruif or White French by the locals, it made its way to South Africa in the 1920s, most probably to act as a reliable workhorse for brandy and sherry production. Today old vines are prized by those who have found the mere 81 surviving hectares of South African old vine Palomino far from neutral but instead fruit forward and luscious.
