_less wines have you asking for more…

The _less wines twosome

Marlene Truter is a quiet person who just goes about her job with aplomb and elegance. We worked together on a single client some years ago. Now she has done the clever thing and launched her own wines. _less wines are true modern wines, so easy to drink and just fabulous with food. I love the simple elegant labels.

_less Chardonnay 2021

Grapes, 100% Chardonnay grown in red clay Karoo and alluvial Kogmanskloof soils produce a medium bodied dry white wine. The Chardonnay vineyards old enough not to need any oaking. Matured on its lees with batonnage happening regularly.  So, it is crisp and fresh with strong citrus notes on the nose, along with some desiccated pineapple. These are repeated on the creamy textured palate. On entry there is a lovely line of acidity running through to the long and gently waning aftertaste. Such a sublime glass, and a perfect lunch time wine.

_less Pinotage 2020

For me, a serious Pinotage, taking its lead from the Pinot Noir Parent. In the glass a deep bloodplum in colour. The sappy red berry and cherry fruits are beautifully supported by the spice and vanilla from 16 months in new oak barrels. Undertow of tobacco leaf. The tannins and the acidity line along with the luscious fruit and oak support make for a stunningly harmonious wine. Will reward with a couple of years of cool cellaring. For the Easter weekend, you need lamb to go with this wine.
