Woodford Reserve Bourbon

Woodford Reserve Bourbon is a super-premium, craft bourbon following the traditional method of distillation to produce bourbon of exceptional quality. The art of making fine bourbon first took place at Woodford Reserve in 1780, making the distillery one of Kentucky’s oldest and smallest today.

Woodford Reserve, which is the world’s top-selling super-premium bourbon, will join the Old-Fashioned movement in South Africa with the 5th annual Woodford Bourbon Trail campaign in search of South Africa’s best Old-Fashioned cocktail bar.

Forty participating bars and bartenders in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban will put down their cocktail shakers and pick up their mixing spoons to create their best rendition of an Old-Fashioned cocktail.

Ingredients
60ml Woodford Reserve Bourbon
7.5ml Cinnamon Maple Syrup
7.5ml Banana Chip Dry Sherry
2 Dashes Chocolate Bitters
3 Dashes Angostura Bitters

Instructions
Add ingredients to a mixing glass
Add ice to mixing glass and serving glass
Stir ingredients
Strain into serving glass
Garnish with orange zest. Serve with a bar spoon between your teeth.

My tasting notes

Pour
From an elegant square bottles with details embossed in gold. In the glass, it is a rich golden amber. The Aromas are of dried peaches, apricots, oak providing spice and vanilla. On the palate, full almost chunky, full notes of orange peel, butterscotch. Enormous palate, very impressive glass. Cashmere clad and long gently waning aftertaste.

Pair
Add a couple of ice blocks to an old fashioned glass, and a dash of still mineral water. Sip gently. Snacks of fat green olives and toasted almonds, chunks of a smooth hard cheese will make great partners.
