No more so than with the Diemersfontein Pinotage 2012 – the original Coffee Pinotage. A style of wine that is the darling of the people attending Winex each year.
Always a surprise to people that these are the natural flavours of the grape, the yeast used in fermentation, and the oak in which the wine is matured.
At our weekend at Prince Albert’s the African Relish Cookery School, Sarah Graham and I had much fun offering for tasting this wine and the fabulous Diemersfontein Carpe Diem Chenin Blanc Reserve 2012 – such a brilliant example of a truly superb Chenin.
Sarah’s offering was some delicious grilled Karoo [where else?] Lamb Chops with which she served with a minty gremolata and rosemary polenta crisps. Click here for her recipe.
My offering was Braaied Yellowtail with Bo-Kaap spices and a cucumber raita. Click here for the recipes.
Jeremy Freemantle cooked these both on a Weber Braai in the chill outside while we enjoyed the wines inside.
It was a happy ending to a busy day.
